code of conduct

ALL Y’ALL ARE WELCOME, BUT YOU GOTTA ACT RIGHT.

HAVEN intends to be an inclusive space, and making that happen requires our members’ and trainers’ active participation and adherence to our Code of Conduct. We are a brave space committed to doing our best, learning and growing together, and creating an environment built on mutual respect. Our Code of Conduct outlines what all HAVEN members, trainers, and staff agree to when they walk through the door:

  • I ACKNOWLEDGE THAT SEXISM, RACISM, ABLEISM, TRANSPHOBIA, OR HOMOPHOBIA OF ANY KIND WILL NOT BE TOLERATED AT ANY TIME.

  • I ACKNOWLEDGE THAT HAVEN IS A BODY-NEUTRAL SPACE AND I WILL REFRAIN FROM ANY AND ALL TALK ABOUT DIET OR WEIGHT LOSS FOR MYSELF, OR IN RELATION TO OTHERS.

  • I WILL HELP HAVEN MAINTAIN A BODY-NEUTRAL SPACE — ONE IN WHICH WE RESPECT ALL BODIES, ALL THE TIME — BY REFRAINING FROM MAKING COMMENTS ABOUT ANYONE’S APPEARANCE, SIZE, WEIGHT, FITNESS LEVEL, OR PROTECTED CHARACTERISTICS.

  • I WILL REFRAIN FROM OFFERING UNSOLICITED ADVICE TO OTHERS WHILE WORKING OUT IF IT HAS NO IMPACT ON MY LEARNING, ACTIVITY, OR SAFETY.

  • I WILL TREAT MY FELLOW HAVEN MEMBERS WITH RESPECT: I WILL CALL THEM ONLY BY THEIR CHOSEN NAMES AND PRONOUNS, AND I WILL NOT MAKE COMMENTS OR ASSUMPTIONS ABOUT THEIR GENDERS, PRONOUNS, OR NAMES OTHERWISE.

  • I WILL HONOR WHAT I KNOW, WHAT I DON’T KNOW, AND WHAT I DON’T KNOW THAT I DON’T KNOW. IN DOING SO, I WILL BE MY BEST TO LISTEN, LEARN, AND TREAT OTHERS WITH RESPECT.

  • IF I UNKNOWINGLY CAUSE OFFENSE, I ACKNOWLEDGE THAT I AM OPEN TO HAVING A CONVERSATION WITH HAVEN STAFF ON HOW TO BETTER CREATE AN INCLUSIVE AND COMFORTABLE SPACE IN THE FUTURE.
